DIY: home-made snow globes for exciting kids!

Last weekend, I held my children with this little home-made craft: a home-made snow globe!

The weekend was not wetter than this, but with a very sick Aline, and Florent leaping all around, I managed to capture their attention for almost an hour, which is rather not too bad considering the energy difference between them! ^^

And if you have children a little older than mine, you can even get them busy longer, as they can modeling by themselves! ( for my part, I do the modeling of the small fairy personnage…I wanted to get a nice guy, instead of crushed balls or other things without shapes… of course made with love by my little 2 and 4 years! )

Matérial :
- some fimo, or modeling dough
- a big jam jar (empty, of course…!!)
- sparkling pellets
- glue gun  (I couldn’t find mine when I took the picture…)
- water
- 1 or more little worm, running in the house and trying to make as much noise and mess as they can (just to show you their unlimited boredom)

Start by getting all the kids in your home and let them sit around a table … it is the most difficult step!

Then, depending on their age (under 4 years is a little bit young), distribute the dough into equal parts (warning, very important, the little worms marked by boredom tend to express an exacerbated jealousy and always finding that his neighbor had more /  nicer color dough  etc, etc).

Then, you just have to let them try their hand in the art of modeling and enjoy a few minutes of silence!

Cook now the little people (or things) obtained by modeling the clay and following the directions on the packages. This time, I didn’t bothered, I went to a take one of my old modeling on a shelf and we passed directly to this step!

With the hot glue gun, place a drop of glue on the bottom of your character (if character, you’ve got!) and place it immediately on the bottom of the empty clean and dry jam jar,  (ask your little worms to empty the pot if he was full, it is one of their specialty)!

Wait a few moments for the glue is completely cool (this is the advantage of the glue gun, glue cool quickly!).

Let your kids put a good shot of sparkling sequins on the bottom of each jar (try to avoid overflow if you do not want to shine for a few days … the sequins are terribly sticky and difficult to remove!).
Then let them fill their jar with water, almost to the brim. Then close your pot as hard as you can.

Stir in all directions!

Of course, you have been much smarter than me and have made as many pots as children, which will avoid the inevitable disputes “mine, mine, mine” and thereby risk breaking the jar (with all its water and sequins fleet on the floor) …
